Banashankari Devi Temple [ಬನಶಂಕರಿ ಅಮ್ಮನ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ is located near Badami , in Bagalkot district. The temple is popularly known as Banashankari .The temple is enclosed by a high wall on all sides.There is a square water tank in the forefront of the temple at the entrance, which is locally called as “Haridra Theertha”. The pond is enclosed with stone mantapas on three sides; a ‘Pradakshina’ path surrounds the tank.
The “Dweepa Sthambhas” are seen in the foreground of the temple on the west bank of the pond and also at the entry. The tower on the bank of the tank is also an uncommon guard tower. It is called the ‘Victory Tower’.
Banashankari Jaatre (Festival)
Banashankari Jatre is held as a religious and cultural festival, at the temple every year on the occasion of the Rath yatra, for a period of about three weeks starting from the Rath yatra. Pilgrims gather together here in large numbers to celebrate the festival. Cultural programs (music, drama and circus shows) are held to entertain the hugely rural community. A unique feature is that many shops set up during the festival selling toys, clothing, sacred threads, door frames and doors made in teak and sweets. Cattle fair is also held during this festival. The festival also marks another unique event namely, the “Teppotsava” (the boat festival) held in the temple tank

During your visit don’t forget to taste Dry Jawar roti (Jolada Rotti),Chutney and Curd which is served for very less price by village people near temple campus.

The temple is located at a distance about 5 km from Badami town on the way to Gadag.
